Community water & soil testing

Logging nearby?
Water or soil concerns?

If a logging project has taken place near your property or water source, we want to hear from you. We will test your water or soil when funding is available. If it isn’t, we will explain your options and help you arrange testing yourself.

A concern is enough to start a conversation

Help understanding what’s
in your water or soil.

Tell us about logging near your home, land, well, spring, stream or other water source. You do not need proof of herbicide use or a complete set of records to raise a concern.

When funding is available

We will arrange the testing.

We will work with you to plan and carry out water or soil testing related to your concern. We will discuss the sampling plan, laboratory tests and the costs CWMP can cover before testing goes ahead.

Our aim is to help you get laboratory results and understand what they show.

When funding is not available

We will help you take the next step.

We will tell you clearly if we cannot fund your testing. We will explain how to arrange it yourself and help you work through the process, from identifying relevant herbicides to contacting a laboratory and planning sample collection.

You will know about any testing costs before deciding how to proceed.

From a concern to a testing plan

What happens next.

  1. Tell us about the project.

Describe the logging activity, where it happened and why you are concerned about your water or soil. Approximate dates and a general location are a useful start.

  2. Work through the records and options.

We will help look for relevant application records, identify which herbicides may need testing and discuss a sampling plan and available funding with you.

  3. Arrange testing and review the results.

With funding, we will arrange testing. Without funding, we will explain the options and help you arrange your own. In either case, we will help you understand the laboratory report and possible next steps.

Start with what you know

  • The water or soil you are concerned about. For example, a well, spring, stream, pond or soil on your property.
  • Anything you have already documented.Notices, photographs, application records or previous laboratory reports can help.
  • A way to reach you.Your name and preferred contact method so we can follow up.

We will discuss the testing plan and the laboratory’s collection requirements with you before samples are collected.
